SERVICES 3D EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE ACCREDITATIONS
We provide civil construction and civil engineering services, including earthmoving, drainage, storm-water and sewerage, roading and site-works for commercial subdivision.
We’ve got the right equipment. And we’ve got the right people. Most importantly, we’ve got the right attitude. If we have to, we’ll move heaven – as well as earth – to get your job done.
Because although it’s great to win a contract, it’s even better to win trust and respect. That’s where we see true value – for our clients and for ourselves.
Our collaborative approach, fosters genuine innovation and allows us to deliver excellent results.
Subdivisions
Base Civil manage all development work from green-fields to fully reticulated and serviced sections. We work with individual land owners, developers and councils.
Why use us? Our key advantage is that we carry out all works ourselves – apart some specialist services which we sub-contract. That gives us a high degree of control over quality and time efficiency and allows us to deliver a better product in a more timely manner than many competitors.
We will liaise with local councils, regional councils and NZTA, to ensure all works are compliant and permitted. Contract management plans keep tight control over quality, health and safety, environmental issues and traffic management.
Roading
Road surfaces must be tested for ‘roughness’ to meet specifications which ensure motorists have a comfortable ride. We use our own testing equipment to ensure compliance and remove costly and time-consuming rework. Pavement construction is a key part of municipal roading. Aggregates must be placed and compacted at optimum moisture content to provide the greatest possible density and strength. We have this experience.
From start to finish, we can move your roading project through the following stages:
- Earthworks
- Drainage
- Aggregate placing and compaction
- Kerbing and concrete
- Surfacing
- Lighting, road marking, street furniture.
Drainage & Water Reticulation
Drainage works typically form part of a larger contract such as road construction, subdivisions, car parks and building construction. However, we also carry out stand-alone drainage projects such as storm-water or sewer replacements and installations.
Some projects can be very straightforward; others more difficult. Working at depth involves complications such as trench shoring or shielding for water intrusion, along with the excavation and removal of much larger quantities of material.
We have the experience to deal with larger projects, including laying in shields up to 8 metres deep for both storm-water and wastewater. We use pipe lasers to ensure extremely accurate grades and straight alignments, specialised trench compaction equipment. Our team can also install water meters tested to comply with all council specifications.
Schools
School works require a considerate approach, where particular attention is paid to site safety. Works are usually tightly scheduled around holiday periods to minimise disruption. Because although some children may welcome an excuse to leave the classroom, parents and teachers would not!
We have successfully completed the following work for schools:
- Foundations and services for new buildings.
- Surrounding soft and hard landscaping such as paths and paving, concrete work, mowing strips and gardens.
- Car parks and car parking adjustments including kerbing, pavement, surfacing and road marking.
- Road widening and construction for internal roads.
- Asphalt footpaths.
- Road repairs and patches.
- Entranceways and crossing adjustments.
Streetscape
Streetscaping contracts require detailed management, outstanding traffic management plans and pedestrian control. Working in the public eye demands both high standards of workmanship and exemplary conduct on site.
A great deal of experience and logistical planning is called for when working in high density areas. Underground services are always abundant, access is usually restricted and work areas tight, excess noise or dust from site is unacceptable and timeframes are often extremely aggressive. Therefore errors cannot happen.
At Base Civil, discipline and attention to detail are part of our work culture. We see difficult and time constrained jobs as a challenge. Through our policy of employing the best people in the business, we are able to meet this challenge and be successful in this demanding work area.
Service Stations & Fuel Stops
Service station and fuel stop site work must adhere to strict health and safety and environmental management requirements. At the same time, work has to completed as quickly as possible. It’s a question of balance. Every hour of down time means no revenue for the business concerned, something we are very conscious of. Repeat work from the major companies and an overall growth in this area is testament to our ability to get that balance right.
We’ve worked on projects for major players such as BP, Caltex, Chevron, KiwiRail and Z Energy. Our work has involved everything outside of the actual fuel pumps and delivery lines. It has included:
- Demolition and removal of existing pads, buildings and fuel tanks.
- Excavation and installation (in conjunction with a fuel contractor) of 80,000 litre fuel tanks.
- Drainage and wastewater systems, water reticulation and services trenching.
- Foundations for tanks, signs, canopies, pump islands.
- Floors for shops, car washes, forecourts and tank slabs.
- Preparation of pavement, kerbing, gardens and other associated site works.
Earthworks
As the scale grows, so does the size and cost of the machines. Base Civil carry out our own earthworks up to approx. 50,000m3. We move up to 2,000m3 per day so we can tackle jobs up to this size with ease. We subcontract larger projects to specialised partner operators.
GPS survey equipment allows us to maintain set-out regularly and calculate volumes directly from topographical survey, so quantities are always accurate and exact.
We also carry out many smaller projects such as clearing sections, driveways and house pads, as well as farm and private road widening.
Retaining Walls
We know how to build retaining walls. From 400mm high retaining walls to edge footpaths and driveways, to a 10 metre high keystone or crib walls, mass stabilised earth (MSE) walls using geogrids, and concrete tilt panel walls.
We have the engineering expertise to design and specify for larger projects, and we have the mechanical muscle to prepare and backfill walls on sites with difficult access. Helicopters have been used in the past.
Our excellent supplier relationships allows us to source competitive-priced materials such as large timber poles, keystones and concrete panels.
Maintenance
Timely and appropriate maintenance can significantly reduce the overall life cost of infrastructural assets.
Base Civil can carry out preventative maintenance schedules to ensure your assets are kept in good working order, and help you avoid any unexpected repair costs and associated budget blow outs.
The maintenance of roads and car parks requires a sound understanding of drainage, pavement performance, and the life expectancy of various types of surfacing.
For those who are unsure how to approach budget allocation for maintenance schedules, we offer a no-obligation free initial consultation.
Tennis Courts
Tennis courts require precision work. There cannot be any slight falls (which will puddle in wet weather) and a perfectly level surface is required for consistent bounce. Base Civil have built courts in concrete, asphalt and synthetic turf.
We work directly with property owners, but are also used by turf companies for site preparation, due to our track record in creating quality platforms.
Consider involving us as early as possible in the development, as we can provide valuable advise on location, access requirements and fencing and lighting options, to give you the best result for your budget.
Underpasses
Base Civil have carried out a number of underpass installations – involving challenging works with limited space and high traffic volumes – on the state highway network.
These contracts had to be completed quickly and had little margin for error. Expensive cranes and other large excavating equipment could not be allowed to sit idle.
Earth was moved quickly, base prepared accurately and then units placed and backfilled. Drainage was often required during backfill to alleviate water pressure. Units were sealed to prevent water intrusion.
Let us bring our experience to your next project. We can obtain all council consents, liaise with designers for producer statements and sign off, obtain road opening notices to work in the roading corridor, liaise with service authorities, and submit traffic management plans.
We can buy the underpass units at very competitive rates. Or, if you have already bought a unit, we can install it. As with all works, the earlier we are involved, the more we can apply our experience and understanding to reduce costs and ensure the design, location and installation is optimised.
