About 4 years ago we started our progression into GPS and setout gear to better manage jobs and quantities.
We soon saw the benefits of having our own equipment through being able to provide better information to staff in the field without delays and accurately quantify works quickly for our clients.
We have now taken a much bigger step into the GPS foray by investing in 3D machine control equipment for our 20 tonne Excavator and Grader along with a range of other gear and software to match. Our latest move saw us trade all the existing gear we had and change brands to work with Synergy Positioning Systems and their Topcon equipment.
This equipment allows us to download design surfaces into the machines and very accurately cut and grade to finished level or a certain offset above or below finished level.
This has been installed and the capability of the new Topcon equipment is impressive.
Some of the key points of our capability are;
- Receiving designs and CAD format and checking and creating surfaces for accurate construction.
- Loading designs into machines via sitelink from the office, or logging into the machine screen from the office to make adjustments if required or point out key points to the operator.
- From the office you can watch the machine work on site, load a job to the machine, get information from the machine at the end of the day regarding how much they moved with a finished surface cut by the machine.
- mmGPS control of the grader via a special laser bring accuracy to within 1 or 2mm.
- Survey and setout with mm accuracy, topographical surveys, accurate areas and surface to surface quantities.
Our GPS equipment and CAD software are equal to the consultants and designers we work with which makes it much easier for the transfer of information both ways, improving the outcomes for our clients.
